Kirra Gallery in Federation Square, Melbourne is arguably Australia’s finest glass gallery. – it is certainly one of the few pre-eminent galleries in the country. Each year, the gallery runs an exhibition for flame worked glass artists. The best glass workers are invited to be part of the exhibition. In conjunction with the opening, the gallery runs three days of live flame working displays in the Federation Square Atrium.
In late September 2014, we were in Victoria (for a school reunion) and dropped into Kirra Gallery to look at the work on display. The Flame on Glass exhibition was still running. The following year, I was invited to be part of the Flame On Glass exhibition.
The best part of the exhibition is getting to meet most of the best flame working glass artists in the country, to see their latest work, and to watch them at work.
Glass artists tend to be a bit solitary – so getting to meet people, to put faces to names, and to see some of the best work in the country is so valuable and such good fun.
